Canadian Nintendo fans hoping to snag a Nintendo Switch 2 on April 9 will unfortunately have to wait a bit longer. In a statement shared with MobileSyrup, Nintendo of Canada confirmed that Canadian pre-orders are being postponed in step with the delay announced for the U.S. late last week.
“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S. Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, is unchanged.”
Nintendo had previously cited concerns around evolving market conditions and tariffs as the reason for halting pre-orders in the U.S. While it’s clear that high tariffs on countries like China and Vietnam (where the Switch 2 is produced) could affect console pricing south of the border, the exact reason for Canada’s parallel delay remains less obvious. Some speculate it’s a preventive measure against cross-border buying or simply Nintendo’s desire to maintain a synchronized release schedule in North America.
Still, the June 5 launch date stands firm—just not the chance to pre-order before then. Were you planning to lock in a Switch 2 order from Canada this week? Sound off on how you feel about these changes in the comments below.
