Hades II Comes First to Nintendo Switch 2, Dev Team Promises Graphical Upgrades

If you love a fast-paced roguelike with gorgeous visuals and buttery-smooth performance, then buckle up—Hades II is coming first to Nintendo Switch 2, and Supergiant Games has some pretty enthusiastic things to say about it. Building off the original Hades success, the team is aiming to squeeze every bit of power out of Nintendo’s next-gen hardware, bringing us an even crisper, snappier experience on Switch 2.

Extra Power, Extra Polish

In a new Creator’s Voice video, Supergiant Games co-founder Amir Rao talked about how much they learned from launching the first Hades on Nintendo Switch. This time, they’re going “completely uncompromising” on performance:

“With the extra power of Nintendo Switch 2, we know we can push some of the graphical features.”

For those of us who clocked countless hours escaping the Underworld on the original Switch, the idea of a more robust frame rate and sharper visuals sounds like a dream. If you’re the type who cherishes those lightning-fast load times for quick runs, well—Switch 2’s hardware should deliver on that front, too.

Why the Switch 2 First?

Hades II will still arrive on other consoles eventually, but it’s hitting Switch 2 first. If you played the original game on Nintendo’s hybrid system, you’ll understand the appeal of having a slick, dynamic roguelike just a button-press away. That instant gratification is key. Even in a quick break between classes or on a short bus ride, you can tear through the Underworld, grabbing that sweet “one more run” feeling on the go.

What’s New in Hades II?

If you haven’t jumped into Early Access on PC, you might’ve missed a few of the changes that set Hades II apart from its predecessor. You’ll still see many Olympian gods lending a hand, but new faces like Hecate—the witchy goddess who’s “too significant” for a mere cameo—are joining the fray. Expect a bigger, more expansive story, expanded cast, and presumably, a brand-new twist on the cycle of death and rebirth that made the original Hades so addictive.

Looking Forward

Fans can’t wait to see what dev magic Supergiant conjures up on the Switch 2. The original Hades was already lauded for its art, narrative, and gameplay loop, so with next-gen hardware, the possibilities seem even more exciting—especially for a game relying on fluid combat and visually striking environments.

If you’re like me, you might be waiting until Hades II fully launches rather than diving into Early Access. Knowing it’s heading first to the Switch 2 sweetens the deal. Supergiant is known for delivering top-notch indie experiences, and if they say the new hardware is letting them push the game’s visuals and performance further, then this is looking like a match made in heaven (or rather, the Underworld).

Stay tuned: we’ll undoubtedly see more about Hades II in the coming months. Until then, sharpen your sword (or spear, or fists, or bow…), because Zagreus’ next of kin is poised to take on the pantheon once again—and I, for one, can’t wait to see how much grander it looks on Nintendo’s shiny new system.
